RRA Garden Competition returns for 2015!

RRA Garden Competition returns for 2015!

Our ever popular Garden Competition returns for 2015. The competition itself takes place in early July with our judges busily examing the local gardening talent that has become very evident over the last number of years.

2014 saw some really inspiring entries and we are expecting the same high standard this year.  You can view the 2014 winners' details here.

The Garden Competition is open to all front gardens within the area of the Rather Residents Association (detailed here)
No entry rules apply as all front gardens will be considered.

The Categories for the 2015 Garden Competition are as follows:

  1. Best kept hedge
  2. Best accommodation for bin in garden setting
  3. Garden with balance between hard surface and green surface
  4. Garden in bloom
  5. Low maintenance garden but aesthetically pleasing as a garden
  6. Specimen Tree in a front Garden
  7. Best small front garden
  8. Best large front garden
  9. Best flower pot/window box/container display
  10. Overall best garden (Dixon Cup)

Judging will take place during June and early July and at least 2 inspections will take place during this period.  Points will be scored out of 10 and awarded for the general maintenance of the garden to include neatness, tidiness and cleanliness in the context of each category being considered.

If no garden qualifies in a particular category a prize will not be awarded.

The decision of the judges is final.

Prizes will be a voucher or gift token of up to €50.  The RRA is hoping that the Garden Competition will be sponsored mainly by businesses in the area. The Dixon Cup will be awarded for the overall best garden. Prizes will be awarded in July 2015.

Enjoy your Garden and enhance our Neighbourhood:
The RRA encourages all residents to work on their front garden.  Not alone do gardens give satisfaction to gardeners themselves but they give a great deal of pleasure to all those passing by and enhances our neighbourhood generally.

Please have your front garden in good shape in June and July for consideration in the Garden Competition.
