The RRA Annual Front Garden Competition returns for 2018!

The RRA Annual Front Garden Competition returns for 2018!

Another year has passed and with good weather breaking out at last our ever popular Garden Competition returns for 2018. The competition itself takes place in June with our judges busily examing the local gardening talent that has become very evident over the last number of years.

2017 saw some really inspiring entries and we are expecting the same high standard this year.

How To Enter
The Garden Competition is open to all front gardens within the area of the Rather Residents Association (detailed here)
No entry rules apply as all front gardens will be considered.  Just work hard on your garden and it will be considered by our roving judges!

The Categories for the 2018 Garden Competition are as follows:

  1. Best kept hedge
  2. Best accommodation for bin in garden setting
  3. Garden with balance between hard surface and green surface
  4. Garden in bloom
  5. Low maintenance garden but aesthetically pleasing as a garden
  6. Specimen Tree in a front Garden
  7. Best small front garden
  8. Best large front garden
  9. Best flower pot/window box/container display
  10. Overall best garden (Dixon Cup)

Judging will take place during June and at least 2 inspections will take place during this period.  Points will be scored out of 10 for the general maintenance of the garden to include neatness, tidiness and cleanliness in the context of each category being considered.

If no garden qualifies in a particular category a prize will not be awarded.

The decision of the judges is final.

The prize-giving ceremony will take place on July 7th 2018 at the Rathgar Horticultural Society Annual Show in Christ Church, Rathgar.  Details on prizes will follow.

Enjoy your Garden and enhance our Neighbourhood:
The RRA encourages all residents to work on their front garden.  Not alone do gardens give satisfaction to gardeners themselves but they give a great deal of pleasure to all those passing by and enhances our neighbourhood generally.

Please have your front garden in good shape for the month of June for consideration in the Garden Competition.
